What background was most represented in Newton Municipal School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

Black students made up 90.2% of the 841 students enrolled in Newton Municipal School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 9.4% decrease from the previous school year.

Newton Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 400 students.

A snapshot of Newton Municipal School District schools showed 90.2% of students were Black, 4.4% were multiracial, and 3.6% white.

Newton Municipal School District roughly covers three schools within Newton County and has a main office in Newton.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
