Black had the largest percent of student body in Meridian Public School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 82% of the 4,758 students enrolled in Meridian Public School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 13.5% decrease from the previous school year.

Meridian High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,308 students.

A snapshot of Meridian Public School District schools showed 82% of students were Black, 3.3% were white, 2.1% were Hispanic, and 0.5% multiracial.

Meridian Public School District roughly covers nine schools within Lauderdale County and has a main office in Meridian.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
