2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Lauderdale County School District students?

White students made up 59.8% of the 5,873 students enrolled in Lauderdale County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a one% decrease from the previous school year.

West Lauderdale Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 672 students.

A snapshot of Lauderdale County School District schools showed 59.8% of students were white, 24.4% were Black, 2.2% were Hispanic, 1.5% were multiracial, and 0.6% Asian.

Lauderdale County School District roughly covers 10 schools within Lauderdale County and has a main office in Meridian.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
