White had the largest percent of student body in Newton County schools in 2021-2022 school year

Of the 3,476 students enrolled in Newton County schools in 2021-2022, 72.6% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Newton County students.

This is a 20.3% increase over the previous school year.

Newton County Elementary School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2021-2022 school year.

A snapshot of Newton County schools showed 72.6% students were White and 0.6% were Asian.

There are eight schools in Newton County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
