White had the largest percent of student body in Newton County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 3,448 students enrolled in Newton County schools in 2020-2021, 52.3% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Newton County students.

This is a 2.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Newton County High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Newton County schools showed 52.3% students were White, 40.7% were Black or African American, 1.1% were Hispanic or Latino, 1.1% were Two or More Races and 0.4% were Asian.

There are eight schools in Newton County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
