Enrollment by Ethnicity: White highest represented background in Newton County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 3,624 students enrolled in Newton County schools in 2019-2020, 54.6% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Newton County students.

This is a 0.2% decrease from the previous school year.

Newton County High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Newton County schools showed 54.6% students were White, 39.6% were Black or African American, 0.5% were Two or More Races, 0.4% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.3% were Asian.

There are eight schools in Newton County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
