Cost of college went up for non-resident students at Meridian Community College

In-state tuition and fees were unchanged for 2018-19 at Meridian Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Mississippi residents paid $3,054 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $90 more than the $2,964 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 42.6 percent more than residents this year, or $4,354. Their price tag grew 7.7 percent from $4,044 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Mississippi residents. About 7 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 89 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 598 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.9 million and 77 students took out student loans totaling more than $181,541.

Including all undergraduates (3,494), 2,222 students used grants or scholarships totaling $8.9 million, and 365 students took out $1.5 million in federal student loans.
