Message from the Mayor

Today’s tragedy due to gun violence fills me, as I am sure you, with many emotions. We as a community have grown weary of the repeated concerns and effects of gun violence, especially its impact on our youth.

I ask that you pray with me for peace, wisdom, patience, discernment, and justice. Join me in praying for the victims, their families, the alleged shooters and their respective families, eyewitnesses, law enforcement, and all responders involved in today's event. Also, let’s be prayerful for our youth and all involved in our school system as they return to classes tomorrow, as our educational system today includes much more than coursework and assignments. Teachers and coaches are mentors, counselors, and some are more like a parent than a teacher.

- May we as a community rise up to mentor rather than cast blame.

-  May we as a community stand up against all destructive behavior by supporting our churches, schools, and activities designed to develop our future.

- May our entire community act in unison and be filled with the spirit of outreach and compassion.

Please know that law enforcement from multiple agencies responded immediately and the situation. There continues to be an ongoing investigation.
