St. Patrick Catholic School to host running events Saturday

Registration is still underway for St. Patrick Catholic School’s Sixth Annual Candy Cane 5K Dash/1-mile Fun Run.A major fundraiser of the school’s Parent School Association, online registration will be accepted until midnight Friday, Dec. 2, at time2run.net. Entrance fees are $25 for the 5K, and $20 for the Fun Run (ages 12 and under). Packet pickup will be Friday, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., at the school, located at 2700 Davis St.On the day of the event, registration will be held from 7:15-8:15 a.m.; entrance fees are $30 for the 5K; $25 for the Fun Run.Races begin at 8:30 a.m.Each runner who crosses the finish line will receive a candy cane. Prizes and awards will be presented for both events as follows:

*5K: Overall Male and Overall Female; Male and Female age groups: 0-10; 11-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70 and over. *1-Mile Fun Run: Top Two Males and Top Two Females. All will receive a finisher medal. A goal of $12,000 has been set for this year’s Candy Cane competitions, with proceeds going toward technology emergencies, tuition and “any school need,” PSA President Katie Rutledge said.

In addition to raising funds, the Candy Cane 5K Dash/1-Mile Fun Run serves as a kick-off for the Advent Season, Rutledge said.

“Those who participate in the races as well as attend usually dress in festive attire … And Santa will be there,” she added. “It’s just a great time for the community to be on our campus and to know that we are here.”For more information, call 601-482-6044.
