The numbers on slips, trips and falls are shocking. The top three types of injuries resulting from falls were fractures, sprains, strains and tears, and general soreness and pain. The back, upper extremities like the shoulder or arm, and lower extremities such as the knee, are the most commonly affected body parts in this type of incident. Have a plan in place in case a worker does fall, and revisit these plans whenever workers are performing tasks at heights six feet or above. Also make sure all stairs have a sturdy hand rail and that they are clear from obstacles.
