About 41.6 percent of the 978 degrees and certificates handed out by Meridian Community College in 2017-18 were to students in health professions and related programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency’s National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Meridian conferred 297 associate’s degrees and 110 certificates in health professions and related programs.

But the single most popular program was for a associate’s degree in general studies, liberal arts and sciences, and other humanities. Data shows the school gave out 266 associate’s degrees in general studies, liberal arts and sciences, and other humanities, followed by 198 associate’s degrees in registered nursing/registered nurse and 48 certificates in licensed practical/vocational nurse training.

The college enrolled 3,494 students for 2017-18, all of whom were enrolled in undergraduate programs.
